'Road Tear-Out' (2020)
'Road Tear-Out' This is a small (6" tall x 5" dia.) 1:160 scale diorama depicting an early evening road tear-out.
A quick explanation for non-metal detecting viewers. Simply put, a tear-out occurs when a town removes and replaces the surface of one of it's worn roads. The brick or asphalt removal process typically occurs during daylight hours with the new material being applied the following day, or within days. Highly coveted by metal detectorists these dirt roads may now be exposed for the first time in many, many decades. Once the work crew leaves the race is on to recover as many coins and relics as possible. Many times these searches last well into the evening hours. These virgin dirt roads can act as newly opened "time capsules" containing a bonanza of buttons, relics, and quite possibly silver and gold coins.
